Life as commerce campaign
The Life as Commerce campaign aims to analyze and raise awareness of the social impacts of market-based conservation mechanisms such as carbon trading (see also Incentives / selling our carbon / Carbon trade ), gene trading (see also selling our genes / benefit sharing / SAN agreement ), ecotourism (see also ecotourism / ecotourism as market-conservation scheme in India , biodiversity offsets, certification (see also certified timber plantations , and the biofuel plantation horror show part 1 and part 2 ) and the sale of environmental services in general. The campaign focuses in particular on the social impacts that these commercially-oriented policy instruments have on women, Indigenous Peoples and the rural poor. The campaign includes five three-year national projects in:
- India
- Colombia
- Ecuador
- Costa Rica
- Paraguay
The campaign has also supported national awareness raising campaigns in South Africa and Brazil; and has sponsored a large number of international activities including workshops and awareness raising campaigns.
